China-based CoE Leveraging resources to serve a global market
Beijing, China, June 27, 2006 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today ABB Asia Metals and Center of Excellence (CoE) PLT (Processing Line & Tube Rolling Mills) has successfully delivered the bar mill revamping project for the Mexican Aceros San Luis Company, its first project in Latin America.
Aceros San Luis is one of the main steel producers in Mexico, and the revamping of its bar rolling mill is an important part of the company's quest to improve its production facility. The new production line will greatly improve the efficiency and quality of the production. ABB CoE PLT team successfully completed the project after overcoming challenging problems caused by tight project schedule and long distance between China and Mexico. The team managed to finish the final commissioning within only 8 days, which is remarkable for a project of this kind. Their excellent execution of the project has left a deep impression on Aceros San Luis, who has expressed its willingness to further the cooperation between the two companies in the future.

The scope of the supply includes DC drive system, automation control system (AC450 RMC), operation desks, engineering, design and commissioning. Signed in 2005, the project was delivered at the end of April 2006.
