Honoured the title of the 2006 Public Welfare Enterprise by CFPA
Beijing, September 6, 2006-ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, donated another RMB150,000 yuan today to China Federation For Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) in an effort to support an elementary school in Xinzhou County in North China's Shanxi Province. This is ABB's second donation in education this year following a 1 million yuan contribution to ABB-New Great Wall Fund for College Students in need in July.
In September 4, ABB was conferred the 2006 Public Welfare Enterprise by CFPA for its continued support for China's drive to reduce poverty by improving education. In the ceremony organizaed by European Chamber of Commerce in China and co-sponsored by CFPA, Mr. Bo Xilai, Minister of Commerce, personally presented the medal to Mr. Peter Leupp, chairman and president of ABB China, and other winners.
The donation will be included in the Public Welfare Fund of European Chamber for the purpose of rebuilding the schoolhouse and upgrading facilities of eight elementary schools in Xinzhou County.
"As the leading power and automation technology group, ABB is well received in China's market," noted Leupp. "We have won a variety of authoritative awards, but I am very delighted for this award."
It is not only the government's task to develop education and to eradicate poverty, he added, but also the obligation of the whole society. As a Chinese corporate citizen, we would like to implement our social responsibility by contributing our effort to supporting both the higher education and the elementary education in China.
Since the establishment of ABB New Great Wall Fund in 2005, ABB has donated over RMB1.86 million yuan for more than 460 financially disadvantaged college students from 23 universities nationwide to complete their education.
