Results of Second "ABB Cup National Automation System Engineer Paper Contest" Unveiled

Energy efficiency & emission reduction become focus of technology research and application

Beijing, September 24, 2007-ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that the second "ABB Cup National Automation System Engineer Paper Contest" organized by Chinese Association of Automation (CAA) came to an end. Out of the 300 papers submitted, 9 won the first, second and third awards and 32 got recognition awards.

"This is a high class competition. The papers enjoy much higher advantages over last year's works in both the quality and quantity," said Professor Sun Bolin, head of the judging panel of the contest and vice president of CCA. "Increasing energy efficiency and reducing emission reduction via advanced automation system technologies and environmentally friendly production have become the hot topic."

ABB China Vice President Isabelle Liu said at the awarding ceremony, "We appreciate the efforts of all the participants, the jury members and the Chinese Association of Automation. The result successfully meets our expectation to promote technology exchange, experience sharing and talents cultivation."

We like to keep investing in people development inside and outside the company, and we have sent many local talents broad to support the implementation of projects in European and American countries.”

The contest attracted approximate 300 papers from enterprises research and design institutes and universities across the country. The papers cover a wide content scope including signal processing and pattern recognition, system integration, system emulation, complex system and system engineering, modern industrial IT technologies, automation system project management, as well as applications in industries, such as metallurgy, utilities, petroleum, mechanical manufacturing, chemical, construction, transportation, water supply, paper, and textile. About a quarter of the articles relate to automation system technology applications in helping enhance energy efficiency, improve productivity and operation safety. Following the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, the judging panel used two months to select 41 winning papers which will be published by Electric Age magazine via a special supplement.
