ABB announces winners of photo competition

Funds raised to support China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation

Beijing, China, December 20, 2004 - Sixteen Chinese photographers were picked as winners of an international photo competition sponsored by ABB, a global leader in power and automation technologies. Their striking images, presented in a limited edition book, illustrate ABB’s three guiding business principles – respect, responsibility and determination.

"The photo competition was organized to bring ABB’s business principles to life in a fun and thought-provoking way," said Peter Leupp, chairman and president of ABB in China. "The funds we raise from the book – around $100,000 – will support the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation."

The competition took in 736 entries from 47 countries and a deluge of participants from China. "In the end 62 winners were selected," said Han Yu, head of human resources for ABB in China. "And Chinese photographers Xing Zuogang and Shen Yu were overall winners in the categories of responsibility and determination." ABB has chosen the "New Great Wall Project" as the recipient of the funds. The project supports students from poor backgrounds who are struggling to finish their studies. "This modest contribution is part of our overall sustainability program in China," said Han Yu.
