Advanced control systems help customers improve productivity
Beijing, China, September 18, 2006 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has just won the Asian Power Project Award of the Year 2006 in the 2006 Asia Power Award Ceremony organized by the Asian Power Magazine for its successful delivery of control systems for two 600MW supercritical units of QinBei Power Plant of Huaneng Power International. The prestigious Asian Power Awards serves to recognize the industry players in Asia whose efforts have stood out over the past year.
"We are proud to be recognized by Asian Power for supplying our reliable control system for the QinBei project, the first supercritical power plant in China that uses mainly Chinese-manufactured equipment," said Huang Shan, general manager of ABB Bailey Beijing Controls Co., Ltd and Business Unit Manager of Power Generation for ABB in China. "Our advanced control systems and control strategy help increase plant operational efficiency and reduce emissions. This award will encourage us to further contribute to the sustainable development of Chinese economy."
Considered as the first-class distributed control system (DCS) provider in China, ABB Bailey provided a complete DCS service package for the two 600MW supercritical units of the QinBei Power Plant of Huaneng Power International. Its pioneering work ensured the proper running of the power plant after the two units, also China's first local-made 600MW supercritical units, were successfully put into commercial operation. During the first year of commercial operation, both units performed effectively and were much more efficient than normal subcritical units with the same capacity. They also helped reduce emission.
"We were privileged to have the trust from Huaneng Power International to work for this pioneering project and are happy that we have achieved the target by improving efficiency and reducing the emission," noted Daniel Assandri, Head of ABB Power Systems North Asia and China. "ABB DCS system's reliable and advanced control strategy virtually guarantees that the units would meet all performance criteria."
The event was given during the 2006 Asia Power Generation Exhibition, which was held in Hong Kong from September 5-7. The exhibition attracted around 100 world leading companies in the industry. ABB participated in the exhibition as the largest exhibitor, where it demonstrated its strength and achievement in system integration, engineering and service in the power generation sector. On September 4 and 5, "2006 ABB Power Generation Day" was held in Hong Kong. Representatives from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, China Mainland, China Taiwan, Hong Kong Special Autonomous Region and Macau Special Autonomous Region participated in this event.
