ABB joins hands with Guangzhou Paper on energy management pilot project

Guangzhou, China, June 18, 2008 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, signed an agreement today with Guangzhou Paper Group on an energy management project aiming at exploring and reducing energy efficiency gap.

This is ABB’s first comprehensive energy management project, according to which, ABB will start by sending a group of experienced consultants and experts in energy management to Guangzhou Paper Group for field assessment of its energy efficiency practices and policies. Subsequently, both parties will determine the next phase of energy efficiency improvement program on the basis of an evaluation report submitted by ABB.

Being the pioneer in promoting energy efficiency in China, ABB signed a five-year framework agreement on energy efficiency with Guangdong Province at the end of 2006, aiming to help local enterprises improve energy efficiency, and support the province to achieve the target of 16 percent energy consumption reduction per unit of GDP by 2010. So far, ABB has provided energy-saving training to around one thousand enterprises in industries like petrochemical, building materials, steel, textiles, and pulp and paper, etc. This cooperation reflects a firm commitment of both sides to active implementation of energy-saving and emission reduction.

At the ceremony, Daniel Assandri, Vice President of ABB North Asia and Senior Vice President of ABB China said “ABB is very pleased to cooperate with Guangzhou Paper Group who is a leading enterprise in China’s paper industry and always paying great importance to energy efficiency and emission reduction. ABB will take full advantage of its global energy management experience accumulated over the years and consider practical needs of domestic clients, so as to provide customized energy efficiency improvement program. "

ABB will implement the energy management program in four phases, thus gradually reducing supply costs, production costs and energy consumption.

ABB started to introduce environmental impact into its R&D focus 50 years ago. So far, it has developed many energy efficient products and technologies. Since year 2000, ABB has completed in Europe more than 40 projects of energy management, providing energy management services to various clients including British Petroleum (BP).
