“The global shipbuilding industry has been growing rapidly in the recent past. More and more ships are sailing around the globe, and China's share in these industries is continuously growing. All these ships need more and more turbochargers.” commented Mr. Ulrich O. Birch, Head of ABB Turbocharging China and President of ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems Co., Ltd, “The requirements for fuel efficiency and emissions are getting tighter, and ultimately, every turbocharger is only as good as its service and maintenance. Good maintenance secures reliable and safe operation of the equipment, as well as lower operating costs. Therefore, ABB has a global service network, and we are here to serve our customers 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.”
Mr. Birch added that ABB developed and produced the very first turbochargers in 1924 and has defended since the number one position in this field for large diesel and gas engines. The Turborchargers quadruple the output of the engine, the specific fuel consumption can be lowered, and the emission can be reduced at the same time.
ABB operates more than 90 service stations worldwide, including in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Hongkong, and the latest one opened in Dalian on June 5. Each of these service stations has specially trained engineers, follows the same high quality standards, and uses specialized tools for efficient maintenance and repair, to insure the well operation during the whole lifecycle of turbochargers.
ABB Turbocharging started its China operation in 1974 in Hong Kong. Later on, the products and services were introduced to mainland China. In 1978, ABB granted a license to Jiangjin Turbocharger Plant. At the beginning of 2006, ABB and Jiangjin Turbocharger Plant merged their turbocharging activities in China and started the joint venture company ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems Co., Ltd, which is integrated in ABB's global network.
In China, the leading engine builders use ABB turbocharging solutions in marine, power, and locomotive applications, to strengthen their competitiveness.
