2002-09-24 - A Window-based architecture that includes technology, operation, strategic partnership, and business processes seamlessly and in real time
Beijing, China, September 24, 2002 – ABB, the global power and automation technology group, announced today that it would demonstrate a wide range of Industrial IT-enabled products at the 2002 Miconex exhibition in Beijing on September 24-27, 2002.
Industrial IT describes the ABB group commitment to bridging the gap between industrial and business assets and the information technology required to integrate these systems in real time. It encompasses technologies from ABB and its partners for production, fulfilment, asset management, and collaboration.
The Industrial IT initiative begins with a robust portfolio of intelligent products for power, automation, and information – each certified and “information enabled” to work together. Integrating these technologies within a standard, open architecture for real-time information exchange based on the characteristics of each component forms IndustrialIT solutions. This capability provides for easier installation, operation, and asset management, plus collaborative interaction across the value chain.
“Immediate benefit is derived from the very first product, as customers find all the information required to install, operate, and maintain it in one easy-to-use software object,” said Peter Leupp, President and Country Manager of ABB in China. “The benefit will increase in direct proportion through real-time integration and optimisation as the portfolio of enabled technologies from ABB and its partners grows,” he added.
In July 2002, ABB announced that it has certified 10,000 products to a new industrial information technology standard, taking the company one step closer to its year-end goal of certifying all 40,000 relevant ABB products and product groups.
In addition to providing IndustrialIT-enabled products, ABB integrates these compatible building blocks into application-specific solutions for customers in a wide range of industries. This activity is based upon more than 100 years of meeting industry needs, and a firm commitment to providing customers with a measurable return on their power and automation investment. Several customers in China have already applied ABB IndustrialIT technology in their production lines.
