Beijing, China, May 19, 2003 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group announced today that it has donated 1 million RMB to Beijing Municipal Government in appreciation of the front line medical personnel risking their lives by working in the SARS designated hospitals in Beijing. The 1 million cash donation is contributed by all employees and ABB’s six operations in Beijing: ABB (China) Ltd., ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co. Ltd. Beijing, ABB Bailey Beijing Controls Co. Ltd., ABB Beijing Drive Systems Co. Ltd., ABB LV Installation Materials Co. Ltd. Beijing, and ABB Lummus Overseas Corp. China.

Since the SARS outbreak in many areas in China, ABB has taken prompt and adequate measures to protect its 6,000 employees and working sites free from SARS disease, by setting up SARS working committees at all sites to initiate and implement preventive plans within ABB China.
Recently, State Grid Corporation and ABB issued a joint declaration, committing themselves to protect personnel against potential SARS epidemic at their joint project sites and to assure timely completion of the projects to world-class quality standard in straight compliance according to contracts.
