Ultra-modern Chongqing factory supports the Chinese fast-growing electric power industry
Beijing, China, November 15, 2002 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that it has won two orders to deliver two 240 MVA/330 kV auto-transformers with on-load tap-changer for the Gansu Electric Power Bureau Zhangye substation project. Under the terms of the contract, the first unit will be delivered in June, 2003, and the second in September, 2003.
The second order is awarded by Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company to supply one bank 750 MVA/500 kV single-phase auto-transformer for Huangdu Substation No.6 transformer. This is a repeat order in two years. In 2000, ABB Transformers AB in Ludvika, Sweden received a similar order for Huangdu Substation No. 5 transformer.
All the transformers will be manufactured by ABB Chongqing Transformer Co. Ltd. The units for Huangdu Substation will be delivered in a record time of five months to secure power supply in the northern grid of Shanghai prior to the peak load period next year. The combined value of both orders is about 40 million RMB.
“These transformers will be designed and manufactured based on the ABB TrafoStar concept which has been successfully implemented in our transformer facilities across the globe,” explained Joakim Olsson, head of ABB’s Power Transformers business area. “Thus ABB can ensure that all our transformers meet highest quality standards.”
“Quality, speed and high performance are good examples of ABB’s firm commitment to support the fast-growing electric power industry of China,” said Mr. Peter Leupp, President and Country Manager of ABB (China) Ltd. “These power transformers are of common ABB design, and will be manufactured by ABB Chongqing Transformer Co. Ltd, one of the most modern transformer factories in the world which is strategically located in southwest of China.”
“ABB’s Chongqing fatory is capable of manufacturing large power transformers up to 500KV level,” added Leupp.
ABB said the order for Zhangye substation signifies a strong move into the northwest region of China, which is traditionally dominated by Chinese state-owned suppliers.
