ABB to provide power equipment to Beijing International Airport
Beijing, China, April 24, 2006 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that it just won an RMB60 million yuan ($7.5 million) order from Beijing Capital International Airport to supply ABB low voltage products for a power distribution system to the airport’s expansion project – terminal 3.
Terminal 3, designed to ease the high traffic during the Olympic Games in 2008, is1.2 million square meters big, and one of the largest single buildings in China.
“It is a great honor for us to provide our reliable power distribution solution to a significant project related with the Beijing Olympic Games,” said Poh Cheng Gay, head of ABB’s Low Voltage Product and System business unit in China.
“Beijing International Airport has very high demands for terminal 3 which will be fully equipped with latest technology. I believe ABB's brand, its cutting edge technology, broad product portfolio, quick response and professional service for customers are the most critical elements for us to win this project,” said Poh Cheng Gay.
According to the contract, ABB will provide air circuit breakers, moulded-case circuit breakers, intelligent power devices, miniature circuit breakers, EIB intelligent installation system, switches, relays and control products, etc.
Prior to this contract, ABB also won two other contracts from Beijing Capital International Airport in 2005. The first is a $6 million contract for ABB Huadian High Voltage Switchgear (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. to supply 145kV gas insulated switchgears (GIS) to Beijing capital airport’s east station and three urban stations so as to improve power grid reliability for Beijing Olympics. The second is valued at $1 million, is awarded to ABB Transmission and Distribution Automation Equipment (Xiamen) Co., Ltd, to serve protection system using10KV Feeder protection Relay REX 521 for the terminal 3 project.
