ABB has won an award at an international conference for its efforts to promote a European energy efficiency program
Zurich, Switzerland, October 9, 2009 –ABB won the European Motor Challenge Award 2009 in the Endorser category, awarded by the European Commission during the sixth International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Motor Driven Plants, held recently in Nantes, France.
The award recognizes the contribution of ABB, and in particular the contributions of ABB's Automation Products division in Italy, to the EC's Motor Challenge program, which was launched in 2003 to help companies improve energy efficiency in their motor-driven systems.
Endorser organizations take an active role promoting energy efficient culture and initiatives, and encourage enterprises to join and commit to tangible energy efficiency improvement plans, while ensuring they get the necessary support to meet their efficiency targets.
ABB has helped many companies improve energy efficiency in their plants, starting with energy audits to assess losses and identify possible solutions and intervention areas. The ABB Energy Efficiency team in Italy was invited to receive the prize on behalf of the Group in recognition of its commitment to the program.
In fact, ABB SACE – the Italian AP division - has developed a partnership approach with industry, and routinely offers consulting analysis to identify inefficient systems, calculates possible savings from installation of high efficiency motors and inverters, then supervises the implementation phase.
Alessandra Boffa, Energy Efficiency manager for ABB SACE, said: "We are really honored to receive this important recognition that underscores our commitment to energy efficiency. The team was created to support our customers and our actions have all been based on concrete goals from the beginning, in order to move quickly from words to deeds: in-depth energy audits and targeted solutions that enable our partners to quickly achieve real and measurable results. "
“I’m really happy to celebrate this award with the entire Italian Energy Efficiency team," added Giampiero Frisio, local division Manager of ABB Automation Products division in Italy. "This team has demonstrated a strong commitment to the diffusion of energy efficiency principles to Italian industry, helping our customers achieve positive results."
In May 2008, ABB Italy launched its ABB Energy Efficiency Award for companies who have made the most progress in reducing their energy consumption in motor and drive systems. Iveco (automotive), TenarisDalmine (iron metallurgy) and Bayer CropScience (chemical/ pharmaceutical) all significantly reduced energy consumption in their respective plants during 2007 by installing ABB high performance motors and drives.
Total energy reduction achieved by all three companies equals more than 4,300 MWh a year with a consequent reduction of CO2 emissions, meeting the requirements of the Motor Challenge Programme.
The ABB Energy Efficiency Awards, which last year enjoyed considerable success in industry and the press, is repeated on September 22nd 2009 with prizes being awarded to three more companies that have stood out for their efforts to improve the efficiency of their plants.
