Easing demand for energy-efficient rectifiers with advanced technology
Xi'an, May 16, 2007 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group officially inaugurated in Xi'an. ABB Xi'an High Power Rectifier Co., Ltd., one of ABB's global rectifier manufacturing bases, which is a win-win cooperation between the world's leading player ABB and China's leading player Xi'an XD Power Rectifier Co. Ltd. (XPR) of rectifier products.
Rectifiers are used to convert alternating current to direct current, a process required in many industrial operations. As a pioneer and supplier of high power rectifiers for more than 100 years, ABB represents the industry standard in high power rectifier field across the world.
Brice Koch, President of ABB North Asia and Chairman and president of ABB China said at the inauguration ceremony, "the strong China economy offers a good business environment to all. To launch this global rectifier manufacturing base in Xi'an, the gate leading to the west frontier in China, shows ABB's further commitment to the 'west development' strategy of China."
He said that being among the first international companies to "go west", ABB has now more than 2000 employees working in the western provinces for four joint venture companies and 10 ABB China branches which are located far west in Urumqi, Hohhot, Guiyang, etc.
ABB Xi'an High Power Rectifier Co. Ltd. started its operation in late 2005. Most of its customers are from the rapidly developing aluminium and chemical electrolysis industries.
The factory is located in Xi'an Economic and Technical Development Zone, with a total construction area of around 5,000 square meters. Its design is a reflection of modern management and advanced technology. The solution portfolio serves a wide range of industries and includes rectifiers typically in the range of 20 to 50 Kiloamperes and can exceed 100 Kiloamperes.
Remo Luetolf, head of Automation Product division of ABB North Asia and China emphasized, "ABB's high power rectifiers can effectively reduce power losses when converting Alternating Current into Direct Current, at the same time they provide high reliability and safety."
ABB Xi'an High Power Rectifier Co., Ltd., awarded of ISO 9001:2000 quality control system certificate, has so far provided its products to many customers including Alcan Ningxia, Qinghai Qiaotou Aluminum, Yunnan Xinli Nonferrous Metal Limited and Shanghai Bayer. The new set-up includes a local engineering center to ensure a high level of local expertise, short delivery times, and a close customer support.
Recently, the young company also started to export to other countries including Australia and Kazakhstan.
