ABB displays a strong line-up of leading automation solutions at the 2008 CIIF

Cutting-edge product and technology offerings contribute to a better world with improved power and productivity

Shanghai, China, November 4, 2008 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has stepped on the arena of the 2008 China International Industry Fair (CIIF) being held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, November 4 through 8. Three divisions of ABB – Automation Products, Process Automation and Robotics – jointly showcase their cutting-edge products, systems and solutions under the theme “Power and Efficiency for a Better World”. The display manifests ABB’s commitment to helping customers for enhanced industrial productivity and energy efficiency, as well as its on-going contribution to promoting a harmonious society for a sustainable balance of economic progress and the environment.

With its over 400 square meters booth, ABB displays its full range of automation product portfolio, including drives, motors and generators, low voltage products and systems, various solutions for wind, water, and oil, gas and petrochemical industries, as well as complete range of industrial robots produced entirely in Shanghai. ABB’s outstanding presence attracted wide attention from visitors at the trade show.

President of ABB North Asia Region and Chairman and President of ABB China Brice Koch said, “The 2008 CIIF provides an ideal platform for us to demonstrate ABB’s latest concept and solutions for helping our customers enhance their competitive edge in productivity and energy efficiency. By incorporating our industry capability and the involvement by the public, we believe we can make even faster progress in leading the power and automation technology race of today.”

ABB, which first to bring industrial robot into the world in 1974, has kept its leading position today with the most complete robotics product portfolio. ABB became the only multinational company manufacturing industrial robots in China since 2005. At CIIF, ABB exhibits five different types of robots, including Force Control System Powered Robot, TrueView Vision Guided Robot, Compact Painting Specialist, the Optimized Palletizer, and Pick & Pack Workstation with image recognition system. The magnificent and unprecedented lineup makes the ABB robotics booth a highlight of the entire CIIF. The Force Control software and the TrueView Vision system have brought a new dimension to robotic intelligence . These robots on display are flexible in adapting to the changing working environment and offer the best in class for path accuracy and automatic calibration, resulting in significantly reduced cost of total ownership. These outstanding features allow the robots to help customers increase efficiency and win a competitive edge in the market.

As an important global manufacturing base and R&D site, China is ABB’s largest market. In 2006, ABB moved its Global Robotics business division headquarters to Shanghai from Detroit and introduced a number of latest robots production lines into China. Today, ABB’s robots are widely used by many industries including automotive, plastics, metal fabrication and foundries.

As a world’s largest supplier of automation products, ABB delivers more than one million automation products to end customers everyday across the world. The company also maintains a leading position in the process automation field. At the 2008 CIIF, ABB’s Automation Product Division and Process Automation Division will display an array of advanced products and technologies, including extended automation system 800xA, high efficiency marine system, low voltage synchronous generator widely used around the world and integrated motor control switchgear featuring state-of-the-art technology.

Leading technology is the focus of ABB’s display at the 2008 CIIF. Mr. Brice Koch says, “ABB keeps making consistent investment on R&D over the years with increased budget each year. The reason that we are able to maintain a leading position in automation and power today, is because we started ahead of others from the back stage yesterday. With 6,000 researchers and developers, ABB invested 1.2 billion USD in 2007 in R&D, and 50% of the budget was used to support energy efficiency related projects. ”

At the invitation of the Shanghai Municipal Government, Mr. Brice Koch will also be a key note speaker at the forum entitled “Innovation and Sustainable Development —Hi-Tech Innovation & Equipment Manufacture” during CIIF on November 4, sharing ABB’s concept and experience.

The China International Industry Fair is the most significant international tradeshow in China and across Asia Pacific, featuring the latest industrial technologies and products. The 2008 CIIF is jointly organized by the Shanghai Municipal Government and ministries and state commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The event is expecting 100,000 professional and consumer spectators.
