ABB donates 2.6 million RMB to Yushu victims

April 27, 2010, Xining – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today held a donation ceremony in Xining, contributing 2.6 million RMB to the Qinghai Branch of the China Red Cross Society for Yushu earthquake victims.

ABB China Chairman and President Claudio Facchin said, “Our deepest sympathy goes out to the people of Yushu. We share the sorrow and pain felt by the earthquake victims. The rebuilding process will take a long time, but ABB is fully committed to offering further possible assistance to the affected areas.”

Included in ABB's donation was 1.03 million RMB raised by ABB employees, who showed tremendous devotion to aiding the victims. Within 24 hours of announcing a donation channel for employees, the donation contact received hundreds of emails and calls. One employee on maternity leave made several calls to her colleagues, requesting that they helped her to donate. One intern from Sweden, who did not have the necessary account in China to make a donation, did so through his colleague. One staff member wrote in an email, “I was raised by a schoolmaster who supported me to finish my schooling. Now that I am a member of the ABB family, it is high time that I make my own contribution.”

Whenever a major disaster occurs in China, ABB always demonstrates its deep concern by delivering timely support to the disaster stricken areas. To date, ABB’s total charitable donation towards residents and relief programs of local power facilities in the Sichuan Wenchuan earthquake reached 11.45 million RMB. In 2008, ABB donated one million RMB to the needy victims in the snow-stricken regions in the south part of China.
