ABB wins $12.87 million drive package order in China

Advanced technologies to help south-to-north water diversion project

Beijing, China, February 24, 2006 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has won a contract worth $12.87 million to provide 8 sets of drive packages for an important pump station in the middle route of the gigantic south-to-north water diversion project.

"We are pleased to contribute to the south-to-north water diversion project," said Peter Leupp, chairman and president of ABB in China and head of the North Asia region. "The award decision was based on quality, performance, ability to execute, and overall competitiveness."

The contract's scope include asynchronous machines, ACS6000 frequency converters and input transformers for use in the Huinanzhuang pump station, a key pressurized water transfer constitution under the emergency water supply project (Beijing - Shijiazhuang) for the south-to-north water diversion project.

The water diversion project is designed to move 44.8 billion cubic meters of water per year through three canals from the water-rich south to the drought-prone north in the country. Each canal will run more than 1,000 kilometers across the eastern, middle and western parts of the country.

The 1,267-kilometer long middle line will draw Yangtze River water up to Beijing by 2010. The emergency water supply project at the Huinanzhuang pump station section covers 477.79 meters with a total area of 156,093 square meters.

The reliability, safety and high efficiency of its products are main contributors to ABB winning the order from the project that demands world-class technologies. ABB is the global market leader in the field of drive technology. It is the clear number in terms of ACS6000 frequency converters. The customized products for the project will be supplied by ABB's plants in Switzerland, Sweden and Finland.
